Best Places to Work

Monday, October 24, 2011

AllBetterCare Urgent Care Center, 6481 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, is one of the nation’s top 10 Best Places to Work in Healthcare for 2011 (Small Company Category), according to Modern Healthcare, the industry’s leading source of healthcare business and policy news, research and information.

AllBetterCare placed 39th overall among the nation’s top 100, all of which were honored by Modern Healthcare Magazine during a recognition banquet recently held in Chicago. More than 325 companies entered the competition. The Small Company Category includes companies with 25 to 99 employees.

It’s a remarkable honor and a real tribute to the quality of our associates, given that we’ve been operational for only 18 months,” said Gregory J. Smolin, DO, FACEP, FACOEP. Smolin is one of three board-certified ER physicians on staff, along with Marlys Pike, MD, FACEP, and Peter Kang, MD, FAAEM, FACEP.

AllBetterCare, staffed during all operating hours by board certified emergency medicine specialists, offers walk-in access for treatment of a wide spectrum of illnesses and injuries. Emergency physician training encompasses all medical disciplines in all age groups and is uniquely appropriate for an Urgent Care practice, explains Dr. Smolin. Medical evaluation and treatment is provided at the moment of need – with no appointment necessary – and with none of the hassle, crowding, and interminable waits associated with hospital based emergency rooms.

“From the beginning, we wanted to offer an experience that was completely different from what people were perviously used to in healthcare,” said Dr. Smolin. “We wanted it to be very easy, very open and inviting, and a warm, fun place to be – if there can be such a place when you’re sick. We want people to walk out of here saying, ‘There’s no reason why I would ever go anywhere else.’”

That environment, coupled with a generous benefit package and a culture of employee empowerment, contributes to AllBetterCare’s high level of associate satisfaction, Dr. Smolin said.

This is the fourth year that Modern Healthcare has compiled a list of the top 100 places to work in the nation. The program collects and evaluates information from both the employer and employees. Employers complete a survey detailing company policies/practices, benefits, and demographics. Employees are asked an in-depth set of questions that allow analysis of eight core areas: leadership and planning, culture and communications, role satisfaction, working environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits, and overall satisfaction.
